[ GLOSSARY DEFINITION ] Display

color gamut

The range of colours a display can reproduce, expressed as a share of standards like sRGB, DCI-P3, or Adobe RGB.

Also known as: colour gamut

Full Definition & Technical Explanation

Colour gamut is the range of colours a display can produce, measured as coverage of a reference space such as sRGB, DCI-P3, or Adobe RGB. A wider gamut allows more saturated colours; a display may cover 100% of sRGB but only 80% of DCI-P3.

Wide gamut is only useful when content supports it and the panel is accurate within that space.
