[ GLOSSARY DEFINITION ] Camera

Megapixel

One million pixels in a camera sensor; more MP can mean more detail, but sensor size matters more.

Also known as: MP Megapixels 48 MP

Full Definition & Technical Explanation

Megapixel (MP) is the sensor's pixel count — Matrix: 48 megapixels, Megapixels: 18 megapixels (selfie). More MP allows cropping and high-res shots, but bigger sensors with bigger pixels often beat raw MP.

Phones use pixel-binning (e.g., 48MP → 12MP output) for better low light.
