[ GLOSSARY DEFINITION ] Storage

MicroSD

Removable flash cards that expand a phone or tablet's storage if a slot is available.

Also known as: SD Card Memory Card microSDXC MicroSD card slot

Full Definition & Technical Explanation

MicroSD cards add removable storage to devices with a slot. Many flagships removed the slot (see Memory card: No, Hybrid slot: No) to save space — expandability is now a budget/mid-range feature.

Cards are slower than internal UFS/NVMe, so keep apps on internal storage.
